The garden gate of the Simbu in the Central Highlands of Papua New Guinea
##If a new garden is made in a Casuarina grove, the Simbu in the Central Highlands of Papua New Guinea erect a lozenge-shaped gate (kui tap¨) made of branches and leaves, crowned by the heads of the "old man" and the "old woman", modeled in clay around the stump of a tree fern (tambuno). The owner of the garden opens the entrance by invoking the sun. Formerly, before entering the garden people cleansed their skin with leaves, which they stuck on the gate.##
