Against forgetting - Analyzing what has been handed down (Yap 1996)
##Those responsible on Yap are repeatedly confronted with the question of how to impart information to students about the history of this archipelago, while not forgetting that their culture has been subject to profound transformations for more than 100 years. As field researchers confirmed in 1994 and 1996, one possibility includes the recording and passing on of the life histories of Yap women and men. In this respect, the "old" and the "new" do not exist side by side unconnected. The vivid and emotionally provocative presentation of the search for new ways of behaviour in unknown situations, may touch the students more directly than other impersonal, reporting forms to transmit information.##
