##In all musical instruments there is nourishment for the soul - The role of music in European and Arabic humoral medicine
In the medieval European and Arabic medicine there were developed various concepts concerning the relation of affective and physical processes. In humoral medicine, music was seen to be one of the therapeutic methods to influence affective diseases in a close relationship to physical processes. The theoretical basis was prepared in the pre-Galenic and Galenic Greek sciences and was realized as a therapeutical method in medieval Arabic medicine; although the aetiology of 'melancholia' was mainly seen in a somatic imbalance, scientists then claimed the necessity of supporting the process of healing with affective stimuli, which were seen as a supporting method to re-establish this lost balance.##
