Seeing the "Hidden". The "X-ray"-motif in non-European and European art
Volz deals with "x-ray-style" objects of art in many cultures and argues that this phenomenon should not be classified as a style (A. Lommel) but as a motif instead, a motif being part of a given art tradition. The author describes numerous works of art showing the hidden, "interiors", from prehistoric times to 20th century modern art (P. Klee, M. Chagall).
