Schutzgeistfiguren der Moba und Gurma in Nord-Togo
Tribus 46.1997:157-188
Protection spirits of the Moba and Gurma in Northern Togo
Zwernemann first discusses the question whether the respective statuettes are ancestor representations, bush spirits, or protection spirits, and votes for the last option. He then describes cicili figures and divides them into three groups according to size (up to 25 cm height, 25-90 cm, more than 100 cm) , but also according to function. In each case the author presents several cases from the stock of the Linden Museum, Stuttgart.
