The death ritual of the Tumon Dayak
Following a discussion of the literature and sources on this ritual, Baier describes the succession of events: death hour and the first day, days and esp. the night prior to the funeral, events at the funeral (in the mourning house, in front of it and on the way to the tomb, the 'small death rite' resp. the 'rite of the night', the 'great rite' (ayah besar), events at the tomb, after the funeral, etc. Several photographs and explanations of masks and other ethnographica are included.
