The papers of this volume originate from an interdisciplinary meeting in October 2002 at the University of Jena (Germany); the papers are the general ones read at the meeting. The meeting itself is part of the Special Research Project No. 482 working on the "culture of Weimar-Jena around 1800", sponsored by the German Research Council (DFG).
